About
The Great Battle Pocket is a trading-card RPG spinoff of The Great Battle series. The player is a youth who has just received a hand-held computer called CAOS, which allows him to participate in card battle tournaments sponsored by the Battle Unit Card Society. The player starts at rank 50, and the goal is to reach the top ranking by defeating higher-ranked opponents. Gameplay in the battles consists of selecting three unit cards from a pool of six and placing them on a three-by-three grid; placement affects a unit's attack range and abilities. Players take turns commanding their units to either attack, defend, or use an item, and the winner is the player who either defeats all their opponent's units or has the most units remaining after 20 turns.
There are several different types of battles to participate in. Many NPCs can be challenged to earn money, items, or additional unit cards, but ranking up requires participating in tournaments. Many tournaments are only available at certain times, determined by a real-time clock in the game. The player's rank will also slowly decrease each day when the game is switched off.
The unit cards feature heroes and villains from the Gundam, Kamen Rider, and Ultraman franchises. There are 150 total unit cards in the game, with each franchise represented by 50 different cards in two different categories each.
