About

Not a Hero is free downloadable content for Resident Evil 7 telling the story of Chris Redfield after he arrived on the Bakers' farm. While Ethan managed to defeat Jack on his own, put an end to all the evil plaguing the house, and on top of that, save his wife Mia, Chris Redfield arrived just in time to provide Ethan with some medical assistance and transport him and his wife back to safety.

Chris Redfield, once a BSAA member, now works for a newly established Umbrella Corporation, who was formerly behind the creation of the T, G, and other viruses in its attempts to produce biological weapons. The company is now trying to atone for its sins by fighting bio-terror all around the world. The story takes place shortly after Ethan got evacuated, when Chris loses contact with the Alpha team who went to explore the nearby mines in search for Lucas. Now alone on his mission to apprehend Lucas and find his missing comrades, Chris soon discovers things aren't going to be so easy, with Lucas being as crazy as he is a master of traps and deadly games.

The game starts at the entrance of the same mines Ethan has entered, but soon takes a course much deeper. Chris finds himself fighting against all odds, encountering new regenerative types of enemies which can only be killed by special AR (anti-regenerative) bullets. Unlike in the main game and other DLCs, this story is completely action-oriented and feels much closer to earlier Resident Evil installments, where the player had heavier weaponry to deal with the horrors they had to face.

During his exploration of the mines, Chris will have to upgrade his equipment to proceed further, namely a better air filter against toxins and nightvision to traverse deep dark areas. In addition, there are coins scattered around the mines that Chris can use to unlock bird cages and retrieve upgrades the same way it was done in the base game. Also, unlike in the Banned Footage which didn't have any manual save game feature, this DLC uses audio recorders to manually save game progress just like in the main story.

As Chris manages to sneak past all the deadly traps Lucas has set for him, find out what fate had in store for his missing comrades, and push forward through many bio-weapons, he will find out that Lucas has a secret agenda and that he is working under orders from an unknown faction known as The Company. The final showdown features a typical RE countdown during which Chris will have to defeat all the enemies in his path and a mutated mold version of Lucas.
