About

Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! is a freeware AGS adventure game by Alasdair Beckett made for his girlfriend. The player controls young pirate captain Nelly Cootalot who meets the long-dead buccaneer William Bloodbeard. Next to being the scourge of the South Seas, he also protected endangered birds. He tells her the Spoonbeaks of the Barony of Meeth have vanished and Nelly has to investigate the matter on the island.

On her quest young Nelly will need to convince the inhabitants that she truly is a pirate, decipher secret pirate codes, meet leprechauns and collect odd objects such as a moustache and pink drawers. Next to a map to move around and an inventory to store items, Nelly can examine the environment, gather and use objects, and talk to the villagers. The names of hotspots appear at the bottom of the screen and by pressing and holding the left mouse button, an action compass pops up where the desired action can be chosen: a speech bubble (talk), a hook (use) and a porthole (examine).
