Heroes of Newerth

Heroes of Newerth is a multiplayer strategy game. Basically two teams fight against each other with the goal to destroy the other team's base. Two to five players work together in one team; every one of them commands one hero with different strengths and abilities. Additionally there are turrets, AI-controlled soldiers and neutral monsters.

The main tactical aspect of the games are the abilities of the 62 heroes, e.g. a fire mage or a warrior. Every of them opens up different approaches on the map, including making alternate ways by destroying trees, but if course there is always a counter measure. During the matches the player earns experience points and money for killed enemy or neutral forces which can be reinvested into improved abilities respectively better gear. The game uses the established RTS controls.

Outside the game there are two specialities. The game calculates a talent score for every player based on his past match performances; this basically serves as matchmaking instrument. There are also numerous options for the matches, e.g. exclude players which often abandon their matches or restrict the hero selection to a few randomly chosen ones.
