Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller - Episode 2: The Wise Monkey

The Wise Monkey is the second episode in the adventure series of four installments. The story picks up right after the cliffhanger at the end of the first episode, but also introduces a new case right away. Players once again control FBI agent Erica Reed as she investigates a serial killer who removes tongues, eyes and ears of victims after killing them. In addition Reed has to deal with a new director at the office.

The point-and-click adventure puzzle gameplay mechanics are identical, relying on examination, conversation, and using items to progress. Erica's intuition with the three abilities in the cognition sphere is expanded with an additional one. Next to using the three abilities previously introduced (cognition, projection and regression), synergy is added to her arsenal. It allows Reed to assemble a full memory by using cognition on multiple inventory items (up to six), linking them together. The progress of synergy is shown through a memory being brought into focus one step at a time, whenever a correct item is added in the mix. Just like the first episode there is an in-game hint system present to access clues without having to consult a full walkthrough.
