New report reveals why PlayStation ended its partnership with Kojima

The Physint development team was allegedly falling behind schedule and “pushing the project over budget,” despite the game still being years away from release.

Earlier this week, we learned about the unexpected end of the partnership between Hideo Kojima and PlayStation, after the company reportedly pulled its support for the development of Physint. Now, a new Bloomberg report reveals that concerns over the game's expected commercial performance, budget, exclusivity, and several other factors ultimately led PlayStation to cancel the project.

Citing anonymous sources, Bloomberg reports that one of the main reasons behind the decision was that the two most recent Death Stranding games failed to meet revenue expectations. However, several other factors also reportedly contributed to PlayStation's decision.

The Physint development team was allegedly falling behind schedule and “pushing the project over budget,” despite the game still being years away from release. PlayStation was also reportedly uncomfortable with the idea of investing “hundreds of millions of dollars” into a title that would remain exclusive to its platform for only a limited period of time.

That does not necessarily mean Physint will never see the light of day. Kojima has confirmed a new partnership with Xbox after spending three months searching for a new partner.
