It took Kojima Productions three months to reach an agreement with Xbox, which is somewhat surprising considering the two companies are already working together on OD.

In a new post on social media, Hideo Kojima revealed that Xbox reached out to him after PlayStation decided to end its partnership on Physint. PlayStation Studios reportedly wanted to cancel the project in June, but the development team, determined to keep it alive, began searching for a new partner and eventually found one in Xbox.

It took Kojima Productions three months to reach an agreement with Xbox, which is somewhat surprising considering the two companies are already working together on OD.

“Physint is an important project, both for me and for the entire team at Kojima Productions. Determined to keep the project alive, we spent the last three months searching for a new partner. We realized that Xbox shares our vision for the future, so we decided to join forces once again.”

Not much is currently known about Physint, other than Kojima’s claim that it will “usher in a new revolution in the action-espionage genre.”

Naturally, that immediately brings Metal Gear Solid to mind, suggesting that Kojima may finally be returning to his roots after leaving Konami in 2015.

PlayStation also released a statement on the matter:

“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to end our collaboration with Kojima Productions on the Physint project. We continue to have great respect for Hideo Kojima’s vision for the game. We remain on good terms after three decades of creative collaboration, and we look forward to continuing to work with Kojima and his studio in the future.”
