"Capcom confirms a major story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem following 5 million sales. New DLC, a May mini-game, and Photo Mode are officially in development."

Capcom has officially confirmed that its latest survival horror juggernaut, Resident Evil Requiem, will receive a substantial story expansion following its historic launch. The announcement, delivered by game director Koshi Nakanishi, comes as the title surpasses five million units sold in its first week, cementing its position as the fastest-selling entry in the long-running franchise.

In a video message shared across the series' social media platforms on March 10, Nakanishi expressed his gratitude to the global fan base for the game’s overwhelming success since its February 27 release. While the director remained tight-lipped regarding specific plot details or which characters would take the lead in the upcoming DLC, he confirmed that the team is "hard at work" on content designed to allow players to delve significantly deeper into the lore and world established in Requiem.

The post-launch roadmap for the title is not limited to narrative content. Capcom revealed that a free update is currently being prepared to introduce a much-requested Photo Mode, which will allow players to capture and pose the game's atmospheric environments. Furthermore, a new mini-game is scheduled to arrive in May 2026. While Nakanishi playfully teased several "spoof" projects during the announcement, including a match-three puzzle mode and a romantic spin-off titled Forbidden Requiem, the actual nature of the May update remains under wraps, though fans speculate a return of the classic "Mercenaries" mode.

Resident Evil Requiem has been praised by critics for its innovative dual-protagonist structure, featuring legendary agent Leon S. Kennedy alongside newcomer FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft. The game has also drawn acclaim for its flexible gameplay, which allows users to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives in real-time. This versatility, combined with its availability on next-generation hardware including the Nintendo Switch 2, has contributed to its massive commercial footprint.

The upcoming story expansion follows a tradition established by previous mainline entries like Resident Evil Village, which received the "Shadows of Rose" epilogue. While Nakanishi cautioned that the new narrative content will "take some time" to complete, he assured fans that the studio is committed to maintaining the high standard of quality that has defined the series’ recent resurgence.
