About
Ys X: Proud Nordics is an expanded and enhanced edition of Ys X: Nordics, introducing substantial new story content, gameplay systems, and technical upgrades. Save data and bonus content from the original release cannot be carried over, and previously released add-ons (excluding consumables) are bundled directly into this version. However, that included bonus content is not compatible with the original Nordics, making Proud Nordics a distinct and self-contained release rather than a simple upgrade patch.
The most significant addition is a new story arc set on the massive, previously uncharted island of Öland in Obelia Bay. While continuing their campaign against the undead Griegr, Adol and Karja encounter two new central characters: Canute Gamley, a tactician from the Kingdom of Danmorc known as "Canute the Bloodshedder", and his Shield Sister Astrid Zayren. This storyline explores Norman politics, the origins of Mana, and tensions surrounding a supposed non-aggression pact, reframing events through the perspective of two pairs of Shield Siblings. The expanded map of Öland introduces new exploration zones, additional bosses, Mana Ride challenges, and Arena content.
On the gameplay side, Proud Nordics adds new Mana Actions and expands existing mechanics. Abilities such as Mana String (grappling and object manipulation), Mana Ride (high-speed traversal and racing challenges), Mana Burst (elemental charged attacks for combat and exploration), Mana Sense (enhanced detection and time-slowing perception), and Mana Hold (lifting and launching environmental objects) deepen both traversal and puzzle design. The edition also introduces Divine Realm: Muspelheim, an extreme-difficulty endgame dungeon with strict time limits and adjustable constraints via rare Deep Crystals, significantly expanding post-game challenge content.
On a technical level, the Windows Steam version delivers notable enhancements, including support for 21:9 ultra-wide monitors, frame rates beyond 60fps, and improved performance through DirectX 12. Upscaling technologies such as Intel XeSS, NVIDIA DLSS, and AMD FSR are supported, allowing higher resolutions and smoother performance across a range of hardware, including optimized presets for Steam Deck. For Switch 2 this is the first version of the game for the platform.
