About

Tom Clancy's The Division: Heartland is a cancelled free-to-play third-person shooter. It was designed as a standalone spin-off within The Division universe. The game is set in the fictional rural town of Silver Creek, diverging from the urban environments of previous entries.

Gameplay focuses on two primary modes. Storm Operations is a player-versus-player-versus-environment (PvPvE) experience supporting up to 45 players. In this mode, players battle hostile agents from a rogue faction known as the Vultures, while also dealing with environmental threats such as a spreading virus. Excursion Operations is a player-versus-environment (PvE) mode, where players complete objectives, gather resources, and explore the map for loot. At launch, the game would have featured three character classes—Weapons Expert, Medic, and Survivalist—and six playable characters.

Heartland incorporates survival gameplay mechanics. Players must manage resources like hydration, adapt to a shifting day-night cycle, and navigate dynamic Contamination Zones, which replace the Dark Zones featured in earlier titles. These zones offer valuable loot but require breathing filters to enter. Enemy behavior becomes more aggressive at night.

Initially conceived as a battle royale mode for Tom Clancy's The Division 2, Heartland evolved into a full standalone title emphasizing streamlined survival elements. Ubisoft announced the game in 2021 and connected it to broader Division projects, offering shared rewards with The Division 2 and The Division: Resurgence. The game had multiple public tests and adjustments, and was ultimately canceled on 15th May 2024.
