About
The Inner Darkness is an expanded commercial release of the freeware game The Dark Within. It is a fairly short narrative puzzle platformer, in the vein of Another World, but with a horror setting similar to Silent Hill.
A man finds himself in a strange, threatening world, wounded and bleeding from his stomach. He soon finds he can somehow transport between this dark world and a lighter version that is less broken down. He must use this ability to find out the secret of this realm before he bleeds out.
In The Inner Darkness you can temporarily shift to a brighter dimension, which might alter the surroundings. For example bridges may no longer be broken or obstacles will be gone. Being in the light dimension quickly drains your stamina meter that is also required for running. Both puzzles and platforming challenges require regularly switching back and forth between dimensions to make headway. The game features no combat; running, jumping, crawling and shifting between dimensions are your only tools.
