Tamagotchi

This is the first game in the Tamagotchi series, and contains the majority of the series' basic gameplay elements. The player is tasked with caring for a virtual pet that is said to have come from a distant planet. This includes feeding the pet, cleaning up after its messes, giving it discipline and praise as appropriate, and keeping it entertained with games. The pet starts off as an egg, and will progress through several stages of life until it dies. Depending on how well the creature is cared for, it may develop into a number of different forms as it grows older.

This iteration of Tamagotchi had two versions, which are colloquially referred to as P1 and P2, or as Generations 1 and 2. The differences between the first and second versions are which minigame is available, which background the screen has, and the available characters. However, all other gameplay elements are the exact same between versions.
