Oil Baron

Oil Baron is a 1 - 4 player strategy managerial game for the TRS-80.

Each player controls an oil company, and must manage the financial management of their company. Gameplay is via menu structures, and players compete to maximize profit. Each turn, the player must purchase and refine oil for profit. They can purchase cheaper domestic or more expensive foreign oil, which they release to their refineries for profit. More domestic oil is available if the player purchases oil wells, and more refining capacity is available by purchasing and developing more refinery capacity.

The player must ensure they purchase sufficient pollution control smog units, or risk receiving major fines from the EPA. Research can also be purchased to improve the efficiency of their refineries.

To further improve company profit, excess cash can be used to purchase and sell a variety of stock each turn. The player can also spend extra money on domestic and foreign lobbying, as well as purchase class A and B service stations.
