About
Mystery Quest: Curse of the Ancient Spirits is a hidden object game themed around Columbus' lost ship. On his way back from America, one of Columbus' ships went astray due to magic, and disappeared from history. In 1953, Professor MacNara and Virginia Carter have headed into the jungle to find the missing ship. Other archeologists have tried before, including Mike Rolands, but they have all vanished without a trace. They find the ship, mysteriously pristine after centuries, but when they find the ship, both archeologists are attacked, killing Professor MacNara and leaving Virginia trapped in the hold. Virginia Carter must escape the ship, explore the mysterious portals, and find whoever killed Professor MacNara.
The game uses common hidden object game rules. Most areas will simply have a list of objects to find by name, with a recharging hint system. However, some areas can be optionally viewed in extra wide mode, where parallax scrolling will be used to show the scene. There are also mysterious portals that open to a mystical version of the area. These are hidden object scenes where the objects to find are listed as pictures instead of names. Puzzles include adventure-style inventory puzzles, as well as (for example) a puzzle where various boards must be slid off the pile in a certain order. Virginia carries a flashlight (which can view dark scenes), and will quickly find an artifact to enable her to see after passing through mysterious portals.
