About

Microsoft Entertainment Pack: The Puzzle Collection features ten new puzzle games, designed by Alexei Pajitnov, the creator of Tetris. There is a launcher. The puzzle games are:

  • Fringer: Untangle ropes. The playfield is a set of ropes going from top to bottom, that are tangled together. The player can choose two ropes to untangle at a time. If a rope is completely untangled, it will disappear; once all ropes are untangled, the game will move to the next level. The game ends when a knot reaches the bottom of the screen.
  • Finty Flush: Drop marbles from the upper columns to a set of four grids. Once a grid is full of marbles of a given color, it will disappear. Once four grids have been filled, the game will move to the next level. If the upper grid becomes full, the game will end.
  • Mixed Genetics: Move mutant animals formed from various animals into various tubes, then breed three of them together to hopefully create a normal animal. The level is over once enough normal animals have been created. The level will fail if too many mutant animals are waiting.
  • Rat Poker: Various colored rats travel through a loop in a level. The player can trap and release rats to rearrange them. If the rats form a particular pattern of colors, they will leave the loop. Once enough rats have left the loop, the next level starts. If the loop gets too crowded, the game will end.
  • Lineup: Place patterns of balls on the field in order to connect opposite sides in a straight line (vertical or horizontal). Once the two sides are linked, any patterns used in the line will disappear. The game is over when the piece preview fills up.
  • Jewel Chase: Move a jewel thief around to collect jewels, then go to the exit square. However, the thief can only move to same-colored tiles except when standing on a multi-colored tile. There is an AI-controlled thief on the same board that can also collect jewels. If the AI thief reaches the exit first, the game will end.
  • Color Collision: Control the color collider around the playing field to collect objects (usually suns) of the same color. Hitting an object of a different color will cost the player a life.
  • Charmer: The playfield consists of a number of pots with snakes in them underneath a vine. By moving a flute underneath a pot, the snake in it will move up to the vine. If the snake touches the vine, the snake and pot disappear. Once all pots have been eliminated the level ends. There are pot lids balanced on the vine; if a pot lid falls and hits a pot, the player loses a life, but snakes can push a falling lid back up to the vine.
  • Spring Weekend: Figures are arranged in a hexagonal grid. Match the figures to the reference by rotating them around a central figure. There is a move limit.
  • Muddled Casino: Move the card to the exit in the lower-right hand corner in the order given, but only groups of cards can be moved; all cards of a specific color, or shape, for example. The group used can be changed. Cards can be knocked off the table to make the game easier, but that loses the player points, and the player needs to earn at least 40 points to beat the level.

Each of the games have a number of levels of increasing difficulty and some music to go with them.

A scoped-down version with only six games was released for Nintendo Game Boy Color in 2000, under the similar name Microsoft Puzzle Collection Entertainment Pack.
