About

Men of War is a real-time World War II strategy game and the sequel to Soldiers: Heroes of World War II (2004) and Faces of War (2006). This tactical game focuses on micro management of different groups on various scenarios on the battlefield. It consists of three campaigns, for Russia, Germany and the United States. Missions are varied and consist of goals such as establishing a beach head, infiltrating an area, and more, mixing battles with gunfire with a more stealthy approach. Next to general scenarios there are also known ones such as the Omaha Beach landing. Many of the options delve deeper than other strategy games, down to equipping and retrieving fuel for vehicles, ammunition for soldiers, or hiding bodies to avoid getting spotted. Enemy weapons can also be captured and put to use.

The game is presented as a 3D world where almost any object can be realistically destroyed. The game mixes classic RTS gameplay with elements from games such as Commandos or Company of Heroes. Soldiers can take advantage of the terrain's vegetation and buildings to seek cover. Many missions are played with small groups of soldiers, but there are also large-scale battles with multiple vehicles and aircraft, allies, and reinforcements. Players can group units into squads, provide orders and have the computer AI assist in basic actions. For firing, this includes aimed shots, suppressive fire or melee attacks, while units can also heal, take different positions (stand, prone), hold positions, move or fire at will, sweep mines, inject morphine, disable artillery pieces, reload weapons or unload them to use different ammunition, and much more. There are different types of soldiers and they each have different proficiencies for the range of available guns, as well as a complete inventory just like RPG games. Because of the complexity, the game speed can be adapted so as not to lose control.

Through the direct control mode already present in the previous games, it is possible to dive into any unit to steer and fire from an arcade perspective, taking part in the battle directly. Multiplayer is available through LAN and internet games. Online games have ranked servers as the game keeps track of the player's overall performance.
