About
Drakensang Online is a free-to-play MMO game that was created by the developers of the classic Drakensang games. It combines fast-paced hack-and-slash gameplay and a custom high-fantasy setting, abandoning the The Dark Eye license and slower, pausable real-time combat of the offline Drakensang titles. At the time of this writing players can choose from two character classes, Spellweaver and Dragonknight, when entering the world of Duria. Aside from fighting hordes of monsters for experience points and money, players can fight each other in several player-versus-player modes like capture-the-flag or team deathmatch.
Like all free-to-play games Drakensang Online contains a shop where players can purchase items or unlock features that will save them time when leveling-up and will make it easier for them to beat monsters or other players. The in-game currency for this shop, Andermant, can be acquired by playing the game or spending real money.
Unlike most browser-based games at the time of release Drakensang Online uses a 3D engine that runs embedded in a java applet in most browsers or its own thin-client on Windows systems. Its technological foundation is the Nebula3 engine.
