About

Delta Force: Black Hawk Down is a first-person shooter set during the United States’ military operations in Somalia in the early 1990s. The game draws inspiration from real events surrounding the United Nations’ intervention and the infamous 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, which was later depicted in the book and film Black Hawk Down. Players assume the role of a Delta Force operative participating in missions across Mogadishu and the surrounding countryside, ranging from escorting humanitarian convoys to direct assaults on militia strongholds.

The single-player campaign is divided into two parts. The first half consists of fictionalized operations based on the escalating conflict, such as protecting UN relief efforts, rescuing hostages, and dismantling weapons caches. The second half covers Operation Gothic Serpent, including the October 3, 1993 raid to capture lieutenants of Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. What began as a short raid turned into a prolonged firefight after two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down, requiring U.S. forces, Rangers, and Delta operators to fight for survival and extraction.

Gameplay combines on-foot combat with vehicular and aerial missions. Players operate as part of a squad, often supported by U.S. Army Rangers, Malaysian and Pakistani UN troops, and helicopter crews. Missions vary between traditional infantry firefights, manning heavy weapons on Humvees, and gunning from Black Hawk helicopters. The game emphasizes large-scale battles with a high number of allies and enemies on screen, presenting a more chaotic and cinematic experience compared to earlier entries in the series.

Multiplayer expands the experience further, supporting large matches with multiple game modes across urban and desert settings. Weapons include authentic modern firearms such as M16 rifles, sniper systems, and squad-based support weapons, while mission design mixes tight street engagements with wide-open areas.
