About

Dark Age of Camelot is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in a mythological version of medieval Europe after the fall of King Arthur’s Camelot.

Following Arthur’s death, the legendary realm has fractured into three rival kingdoms: Albion, inspired by Arthurian legend; Midgard, rooted in Norse mythology; and Hibernia, drawn from Celtic myth. Players pledge allegiance to one of these realms and create a character from a wide range of races and classes unique to their chosen faction. Each kingdom’s lands contain towns, dungeons, and wilderness regions filled with monsters and quests that help players gain experience, earn currency, and acquire equipment.

The game world combines traditional role-playing progression with large-scale player-versus-player warfare. Each server, hosting thousands of simultaneous players, is divided into two major areas: the homeland territories, designed for cooperative monster hunting and character advancement, and the frontier zones, shared between the three realms. In the frontiers, players engage in Realm vs. Realm (RvR) combat - massive battles over control of keeps, towers, and relics that grant bonuses to the victorious realm.

Combat is performed in real time, using a combination of weapon strikes, magic spells, and special abilities that vary by class. Characters improve through repeated play, gaining levels and specializing within skill trees that define their combat roles, such as warriors, healers, spellcasters, or stealth assassins. Equipment can be looted from enemies, crafted by players, or obtained through quests.

Social interaction forms a key part of the game. Players join guilds, trade goods, participate in sieges, and coordinate with others in raids and realm defense. Communication systems include chat channels, friend lists, and group management tools to support both cooperative and competitive play.

Beyond its large-scale warfare, Dark Age of Camelot features traditional MMORPG systems such as crafting professions, player housing, and an economy based on tradeable items. The game requires a subscription to access its online servers, and persistent character data is maintained over time.
