Combat Wings: Battle of Britain is a simulation that puts you in the cockpit of authentic World War II combat airplanes and in the thick of fierce aerial battles. The skies over Europe are full of enemy fighter planes and it's your job to shoot them down before they can drop their bombs or shoot you first.
The game was designed to give you a feel for air dogfights without the prep phases. You won't have to worry about physics, waypoints, fueling or otherwise setting up your plane. All you will be concentrating on is flying and shooting. You can control the raising and lowering of your plane's flaps and landing gear. You can also communicate with your wingmen and issue quick commands.
There are a total of 23 missions that occur both in bright daylight and the dark night. You'll see detailed landscapes below with atmospheric effects like fog, clouds and bright sun. Other visual and sound effects are included during the battles to add to the realism. Nine authentically detailed fighter planes are available in the game:
- Handley Page Halifax
- Hawker Hurricane Mk.I
- Hawker Tornado
- Heinkel He-111H
- Junkers Ju-87B 'Stuka'
- Junkers Ju-88A
- Messerschmitt BF-109E
- Supermarine Spitfire Ski
- Westland Whirlwind
Play the single player game or multiplay in a deathmatch or team deathmatch with up to 10 players.
The North American release includes two free games in the package, both also by City Interactive: Combat Wings, and World War II: Pacific Heroes.
