Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion is a mobile entry in the Ace Combat series. It's a prequel to the PSP game Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception and takes place during the Aurelian War when Aurelia is invaded by Leasath. The invading forces are attacking Griswall, Aurelia's capital city, which the player has to defend by taking control over the Falco Squadron. The game's campaign originally consisted of five missions with an additional three maps being added through updates. The original version of the game had a total of five planes of which three were available from the start and the other two being unlockable by beating the game on easy and normal difficulties. Additional planes were available as DLC.
The game plays similarly to previous games in the series but uses the iPhone's accelerometer to control the planes by tilting. Touch screen buttons are used for throttle and brakes as well as firing machine guns and launching missiles. The tilt controls can be changed to an onscreen d-pad. There is also an autopilot option. Across the campaign, the player has to take down various enemies such as jets, anti-aircraft guns, and tanks. The multi-purpose gauge from Ace Combat X makes a return and is used to show the status of the enemy forces. The game can be played either from a behind view or from a cockpit view.
