Star Wars, a cult franchise that has been synonymous with epic adventures in a galaxy far, far away for decades, transcends the boundaries of ordinary film stories. It is a world where epic battles between light and dark, good and evil, unfold on the magnificent stages of galactic empires, mystical forces, and incredible technologies.

From the moment a blue lightsaber first glowed, Star Wars captured the hearts of millions of fans worldwide, becoming an indispensable part of pop culture. But what makes this franchise special isn't just the fight between Jedi and Sith, but the richness of the universe that continues to grow and develop, always offering something new, exciting, and unexpected. In that spirit, Ubisoft has brought a true refreshment to this beloved universe with the game Star Wars Outlaws, introducing players to a completely new experience of the dark galactic underworld.

This game, set in the period between the movies The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, follows the adventures of Kay Vess, a charming and resourceful scoundrel who faces challenges in a world where the lines between good and evil are often blurred.

Kay Vess and the moral compass

Kay Vess, the story's protagonist, is not the typical hero we are used to in Star Wars games. Instead, she is a person with an unclear moral compass, allowing players to explore a more complex character, filled with internal conflicts and secrets. Her story is gradually revealed through dialogues, moral choices, and flashback sequences, giving players insight into the motives that lead her through the dangers of the galactic underworld. Her partnership with her loyal companion, Nix, is not only the emotional center of the game but also brings significant tactical advantages, as Nix is key to solving certain situations and challenges.

Visuals and exploration

From the moment you take control of Kay, the game pulls you into its world with spectacular visual presentation and impressive environments. Every planet you visit exudes authenticity and details that reflect the diversity of the Star Wars galaxy. Whether it's bustling urban environments controlled by corrupt authorities or desolate landscapes ruled by smugglers and bounty hunters, every location is carefully designed to give players the feeling that they are truly at the center of the Star Wars universe. Ubisoft has outdone itself, not only in creating visually striking spaces to explore but also in providing real freedom to players in how they approach every challenge set before them.

Gameplay dynamics

Gameplay is dynamic and versatile, combining action RPG elements, stealth mechanics, and an open world that allows for various approaches to completing tasks. Players have the freedom to choose how to deal with challenges – whether to face opponents in open combat, rely on stealth and tactics, or try to resolve situations through negotiation and bribery. The combat system is fluid and challenging, emphasizing the importance of quick reflexes and strategic use of the environment. Also, the moral decisions the player makes during the game have a direct impact on the story and relationships with characters, adding extra complexity and depth to the narrative.

OUTLAWS

Space travel and audio

One of the most fascinating aspects of Star Wars Outlaws is the seamless integration of space travel. The transition between planetary surfaces and space is incredibly smooth, providing players with an experience of continuous exploration. Space battles, which include dogfights against TIE fighters and other opponents, add another layer of excitement, testing pilot skills and strategic thinking in the cruel space environment.

Ubisoft has also paid special attention to sound and music, which are key elements of immersion in this universe. The sounds that bring the game world to life, from the creaking of metal doors to the ominous sounds of spaceships, are precisely created to evoke recognizable elements of the Star Wars franchise, but with freshness and originality. The music, which relies on the iconic themes of John Williams, further enhances the sense of an epic adventure.

Final verdict

Although the game has its flaws, such as occasional repetition of combat mechanics or a lack of content in some parts of the open world, Star Wars Outlaws is nonetheless an extraordinary addition to the Star Wars gaming universe. With its richly designed characters, intriguing plots, and exciting gameplay, the game offers an experience that is both familiar and innovative.

Star Wars Outlaws represents a bold step forward for Ubisoft and the Star Wars franchise. Although it faces challenges and shortcomings, its virtues far outweigh these weaknesses. With an outstanding open world, well-designed characters, deep moral questions, and exciting gameplay, this game is not only a must-read for Star Wars fans but also for everyone who enjoys a good action-adventure. Ubisoft has managed to create a game that not only respects the rich tradition of the Star Wars universe but also brings something new and exciting, allowing players to explore a darker but equally fascinating side of the galaxy.
