Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 returns the franchise to top form, bringing an energetic global adventure after the less-praised 2023 installment. This game combines classic Call of Duty action sequences with intriguing conspiracy theory themes that have become the trademark of the Black Ops series. The player takes on the role of the mysterious “Case,” whose past is shrouded in mystery, and the campaign leads him through various parts of the world, from American metropolises to the scorching deserts of the Middle East. During the story, details about him and the mission are gradually revealed, leaving enough mysteries for a possible sequel.

The campaign itself, which is available from day one on Xbox Game Pass for Cloud, consoles, and PC, offers diverse mission types. Treyarch uses the familiar Black Ops theme of “what if conspiracy theories are real,” creating a story where allies and enemies often intertwine and switch sides. One of the biggest innovations in this sequel is the freedom of approach to objectives in certain missions. For example, one mission set in the Iraqi desert allows players to decide which order they want to proceed in, providing a sense of freedom and tactical approach. This mission, which resembles a solo version of Warzone, stands out as one of the most exciting experiences in the game. Also, a casino mission and a donor event where players can choose between multiple options to achieve goals add depth to the game and potential for replayability.

Technical performance and controls

Black Ops 6 maintains Call of Duty standards of high-quality graphics, especially on Xbox Series X, where it uses a 120Hz mode for smooth gameplay. Visually, the game excels in environmental details, although occasional image reconstruction issues cause flickering on small objects like hair. These visual details are not noticeable in intense combat scenes but can be distracting in quieter parts of the game.

The controls are brought to perfection – aiming and movement are extremely fluid, and the new omni-movement system adds extra dynamics to combat. Players can further customize aim assist, allowing for a more precise experience for those seeking a challenge.

The Rook base and interaction

Beyond the main story, there is the “Rook” base, which allows players to replay missions, invest earned money in upgrades, and solve mysteries. The Rook also contains a dialogue system with options similar to those in Skyrim, allowing for conversations with colleagues in missions and at the base. Players must remember specific information from conversations to make the right choice during key moments, which further enriches the interaction and the sense of story depth. The Rook offers three special upgrade systems where you can invest in your character, contributing to personalization and adaptation of playstyle.

The action in Black Ops 6 follows a frenetic pace, further enhanced by the soundtrack, with energetic hits like Nine Inch Nails accompanying the most intense combat moments. The voice acting is of exceptionally high quality, which further contributes to the story quality and characterization. On the other hand, the main villain, while intriguing, might not be developed enough to leave a lasting impression – some moments of his motivation remain unclear, which may be intentionally set as a basis for future sequels.

The game offers a range of missions with different playstyles – from bombastic, more linear levels to complex stealth missions. The combination of styles successfully breaks the monotony, and players have already expressed enthusiasm for the diverse missions, some of which are a real treat for fans of the franchise. All in all, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 delivers a dynamic campaign, top-tier graphics, and interesting innovations, despite occasional narrative shortcomings. The title will particularly appeal to fans of multiplayer and Zombies mode, while the campaign brings an exciting experience worth exploring.
