"Zero Parades: For Dead Spies gets a limited-time demo during Steam Next Fest, offering a tense, choice-driven espionage RPG preview."

If you’ve ever trusted a spy in a video game and immediately regretted it, ZA/UM’s upcoming RPG might feel uncomfortably familiar.

Zero Parades: For Dead Spies has surfaced again with a lengthy gameplay showcase, just weeks before a playable demo lands during Steam Next Fest. And if the footage proves anything, it’s that this is less about high-speed chases and more about slow-burning paranoia — the kind where every conversation feels like a trap you politely walk into.

The demo will be available for a limited time later this month, offering players access to the opening portion of the game. It’s not just a brief technical preview either — ZA/UM is letting players explore the city-state of Portofiro through multiple quests, layered dialogue systems, and the kind of character-building that can quietly ruin your plans in the best possible way.

Not your typical spy fantasy

Forget gadgets and cinematic takedowns. Zero Parades leans into psychological tension, faction politics, and deeply reactive storytelling. You’re not the invincible agent — you’re navigating a fragile network of loyalties, secrets, and consequences.

The preview shows off three different character archetypes, each shaping how conversations unfold. And conversations matter here. Skill checks don’t just decide success or failure; they can derail negotiations, expose vulnerabilities, or open doors you didn’t know existed.

There’s also a clear emphasis on what designers sometimes call “failing forward.” In practical terms, that means messing up doesn’t necessarily reload you to safety — it pushes the story somewhere new. A botched persuasion attempt might create a new alliance. A misread situation could complicate your mission in ways that feel narratively earned rather than mechanically punishing.

Zero Paradise

A demo that feels like a statement

This isn’t a quiet “try it if you want” demo drop. The extended gameplay reveal feels like ZA/UM planting a flag. The studio seems confident enough to let players poke at the systems early — always a bold move for a narrative-heavy RPG where writing and design carry most of the weight.

Controller support won’t be fully implemented in the demo, but the final release is expected to include it. For now, the focus is clearly on letting players experience the tone, structure, and pacing without distractions.

If the showcase is any indication, Zero Parades: For Dead Spies isn’t chasing blockbuster spy spectacle. It’s aiming for something slower, stranger, and arguably riskier: a game where the most dangerous weapon isn’t a gun, but a badly chosen sentence.

And later this month, players will finally get to see whether they can survive their own words.
