Currently in the United States of America, a law is being proposed, called the "Parents Decide Act".
This new law, if introduced, could change the way we use PCs, phones, literally everything!

The idea is that every operating system, including Windows, macOS, Linux, basically all of them, would have to directly verify the age of its users.

It would work like this; users would have to enter their date of birth when creating an account on the OS. The OS would then store that information, and later apps could access that data to check how old users are when using them.
So it wouldn’t be just the OS that knows, but apps you use would also know it through the OS.

The main problem with this is of course privacy. While using apps, they could get your age directly from your system, which basically means less anonymity from the start. It’s not clear how the verification would work exactly; whether we could just type a date and fake it, or if they would require IDs, face scans, etc... That is VERY invasive! Today it might be just for kids, tomorrow it could be for everyone. The system could become an identity gate, knowing everything we do on the device.

It’s not just about America, there are already similar laws in California where the OS must know your age and share age brackets with apps. And globally, there’s a growing trend where age verification is being pushed everywhere—on websites, games, and now even on operating systems...

If this passes, it won’t be just install and go anymore; your devices could become something like an ID checkpoint, and every app could potentially know how old you are...
