On the occasion of celebrating 40 years of Bethesda Studios, something we practically already knew was revealed to us: that the new, sixth installment of The Elder Scrolls series will be called Sentinel. If you were hoping that Bethesda would reveal anything else for their birthday – they didn't.
Well, technically the video did confirm that the new installment will take place in the desert called Hammerfell, but that is also something that has been speculated since 2018 and the E3 expo where the game was first announced, where along with that teaser we only received confirmation that the game exists, likely only as an idea at that point.
Reportedly, it is still at least two years away from launch. In the post confirming the title, the developer also confirmed that it will take more time before they reveal anything concrete. It's a familiar story. Maybe because they said that last year, and the year before that… and 8 years before that.
“Thank you for 40 years of shared memories. We can’t wait to make even more together with The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Development continues, and while it’ll be some time before we’re ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you.”
What's interesting is that many will likely raise the question of why Bethesda needs so much time, given that the wait for GTA 6 ends in 15 days. The answer to that might not be that it takes them a long time, but that they announced The Elder Scrolls 6 too early, because as some sources report, they did so to mitigate the disappointment with Fallout 76.
Either way, on November 19, the "before GTA 6" meme gets its updated version in the form of "before The Elder Scrolls 6."
