Vampire Survivors now officially has some kind of its own multiverse. The creator has revealed something new called "Survivatons".
The creator of Vampire Survivors, Luca Galante, revealed that spin-off games will no longer be just another side experiment, but instead have officially received a name; and that name is "Survivatons".
And not only that, but it looks like they are going to become a very serious part of this franchise. What's even more interesting is that it has been confirmed that a new spin-off will be revealed very soon, sooner than any of us expected.
The funniest and most interesting part of this whole story is actually that the name was created almost as a joke. Luca Galante spent years avoiding calling every game that looks like Vampire Survivors a "survivor-like", so he eventually came up with his own term; and that is Survivatons. There is now literally a chance that Vampire Survivors as a game could become something similar to the Yakuza or Persona series, where alongside the main games there are completely different spin-off projects.
Vampire Survivors started as a small indie project that practically created an entirely new trend in the gaming industry. After the success of this game, dozens of copies and inspired games appeared. That is why it's so interesting that Poncle doesn't want to stay with just one format. They want to endlessly add new characters and maps, and it also looks like they plan to explore completely new genres within that same universe.
Fans are mostly excited about this because the first spin-off, Vampire Survivors: Emerald Diorama, showed that the studio knows how to experiment without losing the identity of the series. Of course, people are also making fun of the name "Survivatons" because it sounds like something someone would invent at 3 AM after five cans of Monster.
Vampire Survivors has gone from a small indie game to the point where it is building its own mini-franchise with spin-offs.
And honestly, if the next Survivaton is even half as creative as the original game, there's a good chance that Poncle will once again invent a new trend that the rest of the industry will copy for at least the next few years.
