"Valve says the new Steam Machine is still planned for 2026, though global memory and storage shortages could push the release into 2027."

Valve says it still plans to release its new Steam Machine, but the company is warning that ongoing hardware shortages could push the launch further into the future.

In a recent update, Valve explained that it “hopes” to ship the device in 2026, although the timeline is becoming uncertain. According to the company, global shortages of memory and storage components have created serious challenges for hardware production.

These shortages have already affected parts of the tech industry, as the demand for RAM and storage continues to surge — partly driven by the rapid expansion of AI data centers that consume large amounts of hardware resources.

The new Steam Machine was announced in November 2025 as part of Valve’s broader hardware lineup, alongside other upcoming products such as a redesigned Steam Controller and the Steam Frame VR headset.
The device is designed as a compact gaming PC built around SteamOS, Valve’s Linux-based operating system, and aims to bring the PC gaming experience to the living room in a console-like format.

Valve’s latest comments suggest the company is still aiming for a 2026 release, but it has also acknowledged that a delay into 2027 is becoming a real possibility if supply issues continue.

Pricing may also be affected. Component shortages have already pushed up memory costs across the tech industry, which could make the final price of the device higher than originally expected.

For now, Valve has not announced an exact release date or price for the new Steam Machine. The company says it will share more details once hardware supply conditions become clearer and production plans are finalized.
