Shaun Escayg, creative director at Naughty Dog, recently posted a photo from Trinidad and Tobago with the caption "Research..."

Just that one simple statement set the internet on fire—fans immediately connected it to the Uncharted series because of the location, the vibe of the photo, etc. It all looks like a very typical Uncharted setting, and of course people instantly started with “OMG THIS IS UNCHARTED 5”

However, Shaun Escayg has not confirmed anything, nor is there any official confirmation. This is just another Instagram post mixed with fan theories.

But it still kinda makes sense—there are a few strong hints. Naughty Dog is working on MULTIPLE PROJECTS, they are already making a new game called "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet," and it’s confirmed they are working on another project besides that. Which means there is definitely room for the return of the legendary Uncharted!

Escayg is also an OG Uncharted figure—he worked on "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" where he was the director. And “Research” isn’t exactly a random word he just threw in—game devs often travel to locations in order to scan environments and get a realistic feel so they can create the best possible game setting, with strong references to real locations. That’s basically standard in this industry.

But there is also another possibility—that this is a new game that isn’t Uncharted, or maybe even something related to another project, considering that Uncharted 4 had a pretty final ending.

One thing is certain… Escayg seems like he intentionally wanted to tease us—just enough to hype fans up, but not enough to confirm anything. Still, we really hope the new project will be Uncharted 5.

Uncharted is an action-adventure video game series and media franchise published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and developed by Naughty Dog. Created by Amy Hennig, the Uncharted franchise follows a group of treasure hunters who travel across the world to uncover various historical mysteries.
