Remake of This War of Mine is in development, confirmed by 11 Bit Studios. BUT; this is not a regular remaster, but a completely new version built from the ground up!

This is a huge deal, because it’s not just another game remake, but an attempt to once again tell one of the most depressing and realistic stories in gaming.

And it will be a full remake! According to the developers, the new version is a fresh take, made with modern technology, a new approach to gameplay itself, but also a long-term plan with live updates and the whole community.

It’s not just better graphics, but a reimagining of an entire game!

Let’s remind ourselves;
This game is very special, because it came out in 2014, and unlike other war games, in this one you don’t play as a soldier, but as a civilian trapped in war. Your goal is to find food, decide who will survive, and steal from other civilians to survive. The game literally forces the player into moral decisions like “Save yourself, or someone else?”

That’s why it’s known as a brutal, depressing, but also artistically strong game.

The theme of this game is even more relevant today than in 2014.
Because of numerous wars in the world, civilians suffering, and real-life situations that resemble this game more than ever. The developers literally want to once again show people the civilian side of war and all of its brutality.

Well, this new version will have even more of those details, for now we know that part of their strategy will be old games combined with new projects, working in parallel with a new Frostpunk project and 2 more unknown games. The whole studio is returning to its strongest IPs.

This could be a HUGE HIT if they improve gameplay, modernize the UI, keep the emotional impact, and enhance the details of the story and its overall message.
But it’s also a risky move if they lose the soul of the original and if they gameify the serious theme too much.

One of the most realistic anti-war games is getting a second chance, and the goal this time isn’t just entertainment, but to once again make us think about how brutal war really is for ordinary people.
