PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba confirmed that he is not done with the Bayonetta series, which is certainly positive news since four years have passed since we last saw the most famous gaming witch in action. What is interesting is that the original creator of the Bayonetta series, Hideki Kamiya, left the studio and founded his own, where he is working on a sequel to Okami.
Besides Kamiya, notable individuals who left the studio include Resident Evil series character designer Masaki Yamanaka, Metal Gear Rising director Kenji Saito, and Astral Chain director Takahisa Taura. Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto left Platinum to work at Capcom – he recently took part in developing the combat system for Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
Atsushi Inaba's statement that inspires optimism is: “We have a strong desire to further develop the character of Bayonetta and expand her world. Please look forward to seeing what form that takes in the future.”
However, things in life generally aren't that simple, and that is the case here as well. It's a bit complicated, but for the most part, the rights to the game are held by SEGA, while the last two games in the series were launched by Nintendo – which is also why they are exclusive to the Switch. The only game in the series that appeared across multiple ecosystems is the first Bayonetta, which can be played on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
However, for now we don't know anything more than this, but considering that the Switch 2 console has arrived, it is realistic to expect new Bayonetta titles – though, we hope that this time it won't be an exclusive.
Still, if you haven't kept up, the series had an active collaboration with Stellar Blade, so on November 5, 4 free costumes for Eve will appear in that game, well known to all fans of the aforementioned series.
