“CD Projekt RED has announced a free remastered version of The Witcher 3 coming in September, which will be free for all owners of the game across all platforms.”

During the finale of the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase, CD Projekt RED confirmed that one of their best games will receive a new edition. This version will include the first two expansions of the game, ahead of the upcoming Songs of the Past, the third expansion for The Witcher 3 arriving soon.

It is pointless to waste words on the qualities of The Witcher 3 itself—not because there are too many, but because we all already know them—and now, after selling just over 65 million copies, we are getting yet another (re-)release of the game. So far, we have seen two editions: the Game of the Year Edition and the Complete Edition following the release of the two expansions.

If you thought this remastered edition might just be some minor novelty, you are mistaken, because unlike the Complete Edition, which brought minor additions, Remastered brings a series of changes.

"My favorite [new feature] is the visuals. That's new textures, updated rendering, advanced path tracing, foliage, you name it," said CD Projekt Red level design lead Miles Tost at Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase. "Geralt has never looked this good, even after all those years of retirement."

The best part of the whole story is that the upgrade will bring the expansions with it, so if you own the base version of the game, you will get the expansions for free with the upgrade itself. This applies to PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Play Anywhere, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The Witcher 3 remaster will be available starting September 29th this year.
