“Overnight on September 23rd, Valve surprised all players with a massive update that brings plenty of new changes we have never had the chance to experience before.”

Without any prior announcement, Valve launched a new update for Counter-Strike 2 that brings all sorts of things with it—literally everything—so let’s go in some order.

First of all, changes have been made to the map selection process to give players a better chance to play the maps they practice and love. The new selection system in Premier works such that the first team picks one map, then the second team picks two, and then the first team picks the final map, after which one of the selected maps is randomly chosen for the upcoming match.

The biggest change concerns a new mode called Rush – a 3v3 mode where players battle in a series of matches on randomly selected maps, with the objective of capturing the central tower and holding it until 40 seconds expire (the intended duration of a round). Victory is also guaranteed by eliminating the entire opposing team.

Among other notable additions, we have the introduction of silent reloading, which means that if you hold the R key while reloading your weapon, it makes no sound, but the entire process is slower than the standard one. Un-scoping a sniper weapon no longer makes a sound. Valve also increased visual clarity globally and improved the fidelity of bullet impact decals.

The variety of crosshairs has also expanded, giving players an even greater choice over what kind of crosshair they will have in the center of the screen. A new “Crosshair/Scopes” tab has been added to the Settings menu and the default crosshair has also changed to “Dynamic Quad”, which according to Valve represents it better.

Furthermore, new crosshairs have been introduced so players now have a greater selection of what reticle will be displayed in the center of the screen – whether it will be a cross, dot, circle, square, etc. Settings for crosshair transparency and color have also been introduced.

The strangest of all changes are the chickens. Namely, as part of the weekly drops, you can receive an egg from which a chick will hatch after sitting in your inventory for a week. Over time, that chick becomes a hen or a rooster that you can even name, but the point is that if you feed it regularly, it will get various skins. So far, there are as many as 35 different chicken skins in the game, and we are sure there will be more.
