"Summer Game Fest 2026 delivered major reveals including Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Resident Evil Veronica, Guild Wars 3, and more."

Another Summer Game Fest is in the books, and this year's showcase delivered no shortage of surprises, world premieres, and long-awaited announcements. Hosted by Geoff Keighley and Lucy James, the two-hour event featured everything from major franchise returns to entirely new projects, giving fans one of the busiest gaming presentations of the year.

Two of the biggest reveals came from Square Enix and Capcom. The show opened with the announcement of Resident Evil Veronica, a full reimagining of the beloved Resident Evil: Code Veronica, and concluded with the reveal of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.

Here's a roundup of the biggest announcements from Summer Game Fest 2026.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Square Enix officially unveiled the third and final installment of its Final Fantasy VII remake project. Titled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the game will conclude Cloud Strife's story and launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC in Spring 2027.

The game promises the largest open world in the trilogy, new regions such as Wutai and Mideel, fully playable Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind, and a new combat customization system called FITS.

Resident Evil Veronica

Capcom finally answered years of fan requests by revealing Resident Evil Veronica, a modern remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Claire Redfield returns as the protagonist in a reimagined version of the classic survival horror story.

The game is currently scheduled for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Guild Wars 3

ArenaNet officially announced Guild Wars 3, the next chapter in its long-running MMORPG franchise. Set 1,000 years before the original game, Guild Wars 3 features action-focused combat, momentum-based traversal, deep character customization, and cooperative gameplay.

The game is heading to PlayStation 5 and PC, with a beta currently planned for Fall 2027.

Tifa Joins Street Fighter 6

One of the night's biggest surprises came from Capcom, which confirmed that Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII will join the Street Fighter 6 roster as part of Year 4 content.

She will be joined by newcomers Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch, with Tifa expected to arrive in early 2027.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin Returns

The highly anticipated adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin made its return after a long absence. The project is now being developed by PlatinumGames, known for its fast-paced action titles, and aims to deliver a large-scale AAA experience.

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain

Rather than announcing a direct sequel, Shift Up revealed Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, a new chapter in the franchise that introduces a new protagonist named Evie while continuing the story beyond the original game.

Alien Isolation 2

After years of speculation, Sega and Creative Assembly finally revealed Alien Isolation 2. The sequel takes players to Kurasaki Station, offering a fresh setting while maintaining the survival horror formula that made the original game a cult favorite.

The Wolf Among Us 2 Is Back

Telltale Games resurfaced with a new look at The Wolf Among Us 2, confirming that the long-awaited sequel remains in development. The studio also announced a remaster of the original game ahead of the sequel's release.

New Cuphead Project Revealed

Studio MDHR announced Mighty Cuphead Adventure, describing it as a very different experience from previous Cuphead games while still paying tribute to the era of classic video games that inspired the franchise.

Virtua Fighter Crossroads

Sega officially unveiled Virtua Fighter Crossroads, the next entry in the legendary fighting series. Developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the game is scheduled to launch in 2027.

Other Notable Announcements

Several additional games were showcased throughout the event, including:

  • Gen Atlas, the new project from Fumito Ueda and GenDesign.

  • Stranger Than Heaven, Sega's upcoming open-world title featuring unexpected appearances from Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

  • Blood Message, NetEase's brutal action adventure.

  • Haex, a cooperative survival shooter for up to four players.

  • Gundam Rogue Orbit, a new mecha action game from Bandai Namco.

  • Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a major expansion arriving in 2027.

  • Crossfire, returning as a single-player action experience.

  • Attack on Titan 3, which will conclude the anime-inspired action trilogy.

  • Star Wars: Zero Company, launching on August 27.

  • 1666 Amsterdam, the next historical action-adventure game from former Assassin's Creed producer Patrice Désilets.

  • Star Wars: Galactic Racer, introducing a broader racing experience in the Star Wars universe.

  • Clutch, an open-world racing game from former Forza Horizon developers.

  • Saw: Genesis, a new multiplayer horror title from Bloober Team.

  • Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, the latest arcade racer from Milestone and Mattel.

Summer Game Fest 2026 delivered one of its strongest lineups to date, combining major franchise revivals, highly anticipated sequels, and several brand-new projects. While fans hoping for a surprise GTA 6 appearance were left disappointed, the reveals of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Resident Evil Veronica, Guild Wars 3, Alien Isolation 2, and TMNT: The Last Ronin ensured there was plenty to talk about long after the showcase ended.
