Subnautica 2 developers have responded to criticism from fans after it was said that it supposedly would not be possible to kill predators in Subnautica 2.
The Subnautica 2 developers responded to this major drama. After a wave of criticism, Unknown Worlds came out and said that there had been a misunderstanding regarding their earlier statements on this topic.
They said that they were not trying to "take freedom away from players," but rather explain the kind of feeling they want players to experience while playing the game.
Many people interpreted the information about predators as "You won't be able to kill a Leviathan at all." That immediately caused negative reactions because players thought the developers were limiting gameplay, and that is a red flag especially in a sandbox game, where people want the game to let them play however they want. Especially since in the original Subnautica it was technically possible to kill almost every dangerous creature if the player was crazy enough.
According to the developers, the idea of Subnautica was never to become the biggest predator, but to survive in a world where you are not at the top of the food chain. Because of that, they want the focus to remain on exploration, survival, and avoiding danger, rather than farming giant sea monsters.
This was not a drama about whether predators are strong or not, but rather about whether Subnautica should limit players in order to preserve its survival-horror identity.
And from everything we have seen so far, Unknown Worlds is currently choosing fear and survival over power fantasy.
