PC requirements for Subnautica 2 have been revealed, and people are surprised because no one expected them to be this high.

Minimum (low, 1080p, 30fps):

  • i5-8400 / Ryzen 5 2600

  • GTX 1650 / RX 5500 XT

  • 12 GB RAM

Medium (1080p, 60fps):

  • i7-13700 / Ryzen 7 7700X

  • RTX 3070 / RX 6700 XT

  • 16 GB RAM

High (1440p, 60fps):

  • RTX 4070

  • up to 32 GB RAM

Ultra (4K):

  • i9-14900K

  • RTX 5070 Ti

  • 32 GB RAM

This is a HUGE jump compared to the first game.

This is a next-gen survival game that looks like it requires a serious PC.
The reason the requirements are so high is because the game has moved to Unreal Engine 5, so it now has better lighting, details, and an open world.
More realism means more power is needed to run a game like this.

The first Subnautica ran on weaker PCs, while this one is going full next-gen approach.
The game is also launching in early access, which means this is just the beginning; optimization is not final yet. It’s possible the requirements will drop later, or even increase, but for players with weaker PCs, hopefully they will go down.

This shows a trend where new games demand stronger hardware, which could mean many players won’t be able to play it right away since not everyone has a powerful PC.
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, the game quality will likely be much better.

Subnautica 2 has high PC requirements due to Unreal Engine 5 and a next-gen approach. Optimization might improve though.

This is no longer a game for budget PCs, but for serious setups.
How things will evolve and whether optimization improves—we’ll see later.
