Demand for this new Steam Controller is so high that some buyers will unfortunately have to wait all the way until 2027.
When Valve launched the new Steam Controller at the beginning of May, nobody expected demand to be anywhere near this high. Just one month later, the situation has become so extreme that new buyers can no longer expect delivery during 2026 at all.
Valve has updated its reservation system and now shows three possible delivery windows:
By September 2026.
By December 2026.
And sometime during 2027.
The only problem is that everyone who signs up for a Steam Controller reservation today currently ends up in the very last group. In other words, if you still haven't gotten in line, there's a good chance you unfortunately won't receive your Steam Controller before next year. The company states that it is continuing production and does not plan to stop Steam Controller shipments, but it clearly did not expect this level of interest.
Across the internet and Steam forums, reactions to the situation are very mixed. While some are thrilled by the fact that the Steam Controller is in such high demand, others are criticizing Valve for not having enough stock at launch. Some users even say they don't mind the wait, while others believe the company simply wasn't prepared for this level of customer interest.
Valve probably expected the new Steam Controller to be successful, just not a situation where customers would have to wait until 2027 to get one.
