Last night’s State of Play was a long one. With over an hour of game trailers, it was quite a gauntlet of upcoming Sony Interactive Entertainment Studios titles and third-party trailers, updates, and demos. One small thing stole the show, and that is the God of War Greek Saga Remake. But more on that later, let’s start from the top.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora
Remember Kena: Bridge of Spirits that launched day one on the PlayStation Plus Catalogue? Well, it is getting a sequel—Kena: Scars of Kosmora. The first game was a good one, but it didn't get much traction among the fans of third-person action-adventure games, which were dominated by Souls games at the time.
Now we are getting a sequel with a grown-up Kena, who is a renowned Spirit Guide. The game looks more mature but still has that lovely design. Kena travels to the mysterious island of Kosmora. Like in the first game, spirit companions will be a big part of Kena's journey—charming buddies that travel with you, grow over time, and unlock new powers as your bond deepens. Kena: Scars of Kosmora launches this year on PS5 and PC.
Crimson Moon & Beast of Reincarnation
ProbablyMonsters are working hard on their gothic world full of angels, demons, and ancient gods. Purge the demons alone or with a friend to reclaim the city later this year.
Beast of Reincarnation, set in a sci-fi inspired far-future Japan against the backdrop of a devastated world, is a story of Emma and her loyal companion Koo—a four-legged dog, or wolf, maybe a plant, or all three. Use Emma in sword-based combat then direct your companion in real-time through a command system similar to a turn-based RPG.
Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition
Ubisoft is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Rayman by re-releasing the original 1995 platformer, developed by Digital Eclipse. The Anniversary Edition lets you play multiple versions of the original and take on 120 additional levels pulled from the bonus level packs. It includes a faithfully reimagined soundtrack by composer Christophe Héral, optional enhanced gameplay features, an interactive documentary, and a never-before-playable prototype. I guess this is great for fans, but it’s not a new game, so I feel let down by Ubisoft again.
Metal Gear Solid Delta & Master Collection Vol. 2
We finally got a deeper look at Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The new gameplay footage focused on the "Battle Damage" system, showing how every scratch and bullet wound Snake takes will stay on his body throughout the journey. It looks incredibly faithful to the original, but the Unreal Engine 5 visuals make the jungle feel alive in a way we've never seen.
To make things even better, Konami officially announced Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2. The highlight here is definitely the inclusion of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which will finally be playable on modern consoles after being "trapped" on the PS3 for nearly two decades.
Mina the Hollower
The studio that brought us the great Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games, shared a new gameplay trailer and a PS5 demo for their upcoming action-adventure game Mina the Hollower. They promise this will be their largest game yet, with:
Over 25 unique bosses and 60 trinkets to discover.
Weapon upgrades and a level-up system.
New Game Plus and hundreds of gameplay modifiers.
A fishing mini-game, tons of puns, and so much more. There is a limited-time PS5 demo you can try right now.
Neva: Prologue
Set years before Alba and the wolf cub Neva met, this prologue tells the story of how this friendship came to be. New gameplay mechanics and all-new locations are promised. This DLC launches February 19.
God of War trilogy remake
Finally, the "small thing" that absolutely stole the show. The God of War Greek Saga Remake is officially real. This isn't just a simple remaster or a resolution bump; it’s a ground-up remake of the original trilogy. Seeing Kratos in his prime, taking on the Hydra and the Gods of Olympus with modern-day graphics, was breathtaking. It looks like they are keeping the classic fixed-camera angles in some sections while modernizing the combat to feel as fluid as the Norse era. It’s the ultimate tribute to the series' roots, and honestly, it’s exactly what the fans have been begging for.
