This is not the first time Sony has increased PlayStation 5 prices. Last year in August, prices in the U.S. were also raised. At that time, the price increased by $50 for the PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, and PS5 Pro. The standard PS5 with a disc drive is now $100 more expensive. The PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Pro are now $150 to $900 more expensive. The PlayStation Portal has increased by $50. It means a new PS5 now starts at $600. When the standard PS5 launched back in November 2020, it cost $500.
Reactions to the price increase have been a mix of anger and disappointment, with some people also shocked. Many are also concerned about whether gaming has become too expensive for most people, considering the current situation.
