Capcom used this year’s Summer Game Fest stage to officially unveil Resident Evil Veronica, a modern reimagining of the fan-favorite Resident Evil: Code Veronica. The announcement immediately generated excitement among longtime followers of the survival horror franchise, many of whom have been hoping for a remake of the classic title for years.
The reveal trailer opened with scenes set inside an apartment in Paris, where a mysterious young woman is guided through the location. While her identity remains concealed for much of the footage, subtle hints suggest she is searching for someone important while carrying out a secret mission. The trailer’s closing moments confirm what many fans had already suspected: the protagonist is Claire Redfield, returning in a completely reimagined version of one of the series’ most beloved stories.
Originally released in 2000 on the Sega Dreamcast, Resident Evil: Code Veronica never carried a numbered title despite playing a significant role in the overarching Resident Evil narrative. Over the years, it has become one of the most requested entries for a full remake, thanks to its memorable locations, characters, and storyline.
The events of the game unfold around the same period as Resident Evil 3, but shift the focus to Claire and her brother Chris Redfield. Their journey takes them from a remote prison island to the frozen landscapes of Antarctica as they uncover new threats tied to Umbrella’s legacy. Fans will also be pleased to know that Albert Wesker, one of the franchise’s most iconic villains, is set to play a role in the story once again.
Capcom did not provide an exact release date during the announcement, but confirmed that Resident Evil Veronica is currently scheduled to launch in 2027.
