Resident Evil reboot has received its first trailer... And you won’t believe it, but it looks quite different from Resident Evil games.
A new trailer for the Resident Evil reboot movie was recently released. A movie that is an adaptation of the well-known Resident Evil game.
The director of this movie is Zach Cregger, and based on everything shown in the trailer; it looks like it’s going in a different direction from all the games.
At first glance, it’s clear this won’t be just a classic adaptation.
The trailer first shows the atmosphere; which is dark, tense, and more psychological horror than action.
This is where the main differences between the game and the movie adaptation appear; along with a different tone, possible changes in the story and characters, and most importantly and obviously; LESS DIRECT “GAME” FEEL!
It feels more like a reinterpretation of the Resident Evil universe, rather than a faithful adaptation of the games and original story as a whole.
What all fans immediately noticed is that the focus isn’t strictly on the well-known events from the games, and the visual style and pacing feel more cinematic than game-like.
The trailer itself doesn’t give many concrete details about the movie’s plot.
All of this could either be a refreshing take or another miss if it strays too far from the core idea of Resident Evil.
Resident Evil has already had multiple adaptations.
For example, previous attempts like the action movies with Milla Jovovich, as well as Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (which was closer to the games, but received mixed reactions from viewers and fans).
This new movie seems to be trying to find a new identity that will be unique to itself.
This shows that the franchise is being reset again in movie form. The studio clearly wants to try a different approach and reach a wider audience, not just fans of the games.
But it’s a risk. A big one. It risks losing what fans actually love the most.
The trailer is here, the movie looks very different from the games, and the biggest question remains; Is that a bad thing, or actually a good one?
If they nail the atmosphere and story, it could be a great movie. But if it strays too far... FANS WILL DROP IT FAST!
