During this year's QuakeCon, id Software and MachineGames surprised all fans of the Quake series with the announcement of a new expansion for the iconic 2021 remaster. The campaign in question is titled Dawn of the Machine and brings with it 19 new levels in which Ranger will have new weapons at his disposal, new puzzles to solve, and a new time loop mechanic. Along with that, of course, comes a new soundtrack, new deathmatch maps, and new achievements.
For all owners of the Quake Enhanced edition (from 2021) and Xbox Game Pass subscribers on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch platforms, the expansion will be available free of charge. Behind this campaign is an internal group within the MachineGames studio, a team known as Quake Club. The developers worked on the levels in their spare time as a hobby and out of a desire to pay tribute to the title that laid the foundations of 3D shooters.
What we do know is that the level of replayability will be high across these levels, all thanks to the new time loop mechanic that will allow a new path to open with each restart of the level. This also implies there will be new secrets and upgrades to make you stronger.
The campaign is already available, and you can access it immediately.
All of these features go to show that this is a real treat for all true fans of the series.
