Quake Champions has walked a strange path since its release. Namely, it started as a game that was free only to those who had access to the closed beta test, and then somewhat later, about a year after release, transitioned into a free-to-play format for everyone. Now, nearly a full decade later, it is returning to a premium model once again.
What happened is that Quake Champions will now have to be paid for again, but this time for just 10 euros. Someone might rightfully say that this is an odd decision given how much time the game spent being completely free, but there is actually good reason for this news to please anyone who has launched the game at least once since it came out.
The asking price will apply only to new players downloading the game for the first time, while the good news concerns absolutely everyone, as virtually all microtransactions in the form of loot boxes, battle passes, and everything else you once had to pay for have now been removed from the game.
Alongside this change came plenty of new fixes addressing random crashes, audio issues, and weapon bugs. At the same time, bad news arrived that Quake Champions will no longer receive new content, effectively bringing support for the game to an end.
Still, anyone who wants to can still have a blast in this arena shooter.
