"Rumors have started spreading online that games on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 have now begun requiring an online check every 30 days."

Rumors have started spreading online that games on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 have now begun requiring an online check every 30 days.

If the online check isn’t done, the games would supposedly become unplayable.

Although this has not been officially confirmed, some users have noticed expiration dates on certain games, as well as potential changes in licensing.

However, it’s important to point out that there is no confirmation that this is a global change for all users and all games. It’s very possible that this is currently a system test, a bug, or specific cases such as certain apps.

But there’s still no need to panic; everything you’ve already purchased is safe, and there’s no evidence that older games will suddenly stop working. Sony itself hasn’t announced any such system.

PlayStation already uses licenses for digital games and occasionally requires account checks or “restore licenses.” But there has never been a strict rule requiring users to be online every 30 days for single-player games.

So yeah, similar DRM systems have existed before, but they weren’t this aggressive like this rumored system.

This is currently just a rumor, so it’s not verified information—especially since there’s no official confirmation from Sony. Your games are safe for now!

This looks more like testing than an actual major change… but it’s definitely something worth keeping an eye on, because a move like this from Sony would be controversial and harmful for players on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
