"Project Zomboid has removed and banned multiple Steam Workshop mods after discovering they contained hidden malicious code affecting players’ systems."

After reviewing several types of mods for the game Project Zomboid, developers have taken harsh measures regarding malicious mods found on the Steam Workshop, banning them from the platform.

The team stated, "more than a dozen various mods contained very heavily masked malicious code (obfuscated code) designed to create unwanted files on the player's system." Fortunately, no results with serious damage have been reported, but all of this has certainly caused great concern in the community for the security of their systems.

Developers reacted quickly and removed the mods with a complete ban of the mod authors, which simultaneously warned players to be significantly more cautious in the future when downloading files!

The incident itself highlights how, on mod platforms where access is open to everyone, a malicious file can sometimes wander in, sneaking through and masking itself—even on platforms like Steam Workshop—and players must know that even it is not 100% immune to such cases.

The result of everything is the encouragement of "good" mods, especially in huge modding communities like Project Zomboid.
