"Running with Scissors announces Flesh & Wire, a horror FPS where you play as Angel, a survivor seeking revenge for the Postal Dude’s original 1997 killing spree."

Running with Scissors, the studio behind the controversial Postal franchise, has officially unveiled its latest project, a psychological horror first-person shooter that revisits the dark legacy of the original 1997 game. Titled Flesh & Wire, the upcoming release marks a significant departure for the developer, shifting the narrative focus from the perpetrator to a victim of the series’ inaugural violence.

The game is set against the backdrop of the "Postal Dude’s" initial killing spree. Unlike previous entries where players inhabited the role of the cynical anti-hero, Flesh & Wire casts players as Angel, a young woman who narrowly survived that first rampage. Driven by trauma and a need for retribution, the protagonist seeks to track down the crazed gunman across a twisted version of Arizona. This pivot toward a more serious tone explores the consequences of the lead character's actions, a theme the franchise has historically avoided in favor of nihilistic humor.

Visually and mechanically, the title delves into "dreamscape" elements where Angel’s memories and monsters blend into a warped reality. While the gameplay remains a first-person shooter, it incorporates psychological horror roots and surreal environments. Players will use a mix of conventional firearms and "unearthly tools" to battle military forces and mysterious cults. The debut information suggests that while the studio’s trademark intensity remains, the focus has shifted toward a grimmer, more primordial atmosphere reminiscent of the very first game in the series.

Industry observers note that the announcement reflects a strategy of diversifying the Postal intellectual property. By exploring a "victim’s perspective," Running with Scissors is attempting to bridge the gap between the atmospheric horror of the 1997 original and the over-the-top satire of the later sequels. The project is being positioned as a fresh spin on the rowdy universe that has sustained a cult following for nearly three decades.

Flesh & Wire is currently scheduled for a 2027 release on PC and PlayStation 5. As the studio prepares for the launch, the project stands as an unconventional attempt to recontextualize one of gaming’s most polarizing figures through the lens of those left in his wake.
