During a special presentation celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series, Nintendo finally revealed the release date for the long-awaited Ocarina of Time remake. Following an extensive gameplay showcase that took up nearly half of the Direct, Nintendo confirmed that the modern version of the first 3D Zelda game will launch in less than two months, on November 5.
During the gameplay demonstration, we first learned that the remake will stay true to its roots and will not become an open-world adventure like more recent Zelda titles. However, it introduces a number of modern features, including free camera movement, a day-and-night cycle, completely updated visuals, expanded dialogue, voice acting, and manual jumping, which was automatic in the original game.
Navi and the iconic ocarina are, of course, making a return, but with one major new feature. In addition to traditional controller inputs, players will be able to play the ocarina using the microphone on Nintendo Switch 2, either with their own voice or with another instrument such as a guitar or piano.
The presentation took us through Kokiri Forest and the Great Deku Tree dungeon, where the combat system was showcased, before moving on to Hyrule Field, which serves as a central hub. From there, we also got a look at Hyrule Castle and Castle Town.
The town is now significantly more detailed, featuring a much larger number of NPCs that players can interact and speak with.
At the end of the Direct, Nintendo also showed a montage featuring additional gameplay footage and cinematics, with Zelda, Ganondorf, Saria, Ruto, and several other familiar characters appearing alongside Link.
