Nintendo is unfortunately ending sales of the original Nintendo Switch in Europe, and it's happening very soon... At the beginning of 2027.
Unfortunately, the end of another beautiful era has come for all of us... After literally 10 years on the market, the original Nintendo Switch console is slowly heading into its well-deserved retirement. Nintendo has confirmed that starting in mid-February 2027, it will stop shipping the original Nintendo Switch consoles, as well as the Switch Lite and Switch OLED, to retailers across Europe. Sales through the official Nintendo Store will also come to an end.
This decision applies to the entire first Nintendo Switch family. That includes the standard Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED. After February 2027, these consoles will no longer be shipped to retailers across Europe. Although existing stock will continue to be sold while supplies last, Nintendo has emphasized that console owners will still be able to use all of their games, accessories, and Nintendo Switch Online, which will remain available for the foreseeable future.
Fans generally see Nintendo's decision as an expected move, considering that the original Nintendo Switch will have been on the market for nearly a full decade by then. But still... Many point out that it's impressive the console remained on sale for so long, and that its sad departure will mark the end of one of the most successful eras in Nintendo's history.
The original Nintendo Switch won't disappear overnight, but its end has now officially been confirmed, at least in Europe.
Starting in mid-February 2027, Nintendo will no longer ship new Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED consoles to European retailers. For console owners, there's no reason to worry, as games, accessories, and online services will continue to work. But this definitely marks the end of one of the most successful consoles of all time.
