New Leon mode arrives in Resident Evil RE, fans disappointed

Capcom has released a new Leon mode for Resident Evil Requiem, called LEON MUST DIE... FOREVER!

Capcom suddenly released this new mode for Resident Evil Requiem without any prior announcement.
Instead of bringing back the popular Mercenaries mode, the game actually received a new Leon Must Die Forever mode. This mode is available completely free through an update for all platforms.
Fans were expecting Mercenaries, but Capcom went in a completely different direction than expected.

Leon Must Die Forever is a new mode focused on extremely difficult combat gameplay. Leon fights against stronger enemies across multiple locations from the main game, with a timer system present along with special upgrades and permadeath elements.
It feels like a mix of an arcade survival mode and a hardcore challenge run.

However... fans are disappointed because they didn’t get what they wanted. Many players were expecting the return of the Mercenaries mode, but instead received the Leon Must Die Forever mode.
Capcom had previously hinted at mini-game content after launch. On social media, part of the fanbase is disappointed that Mercenaries has not returned again.
Looking at all of this, it seems like Capcom is trying to experiment instead of playing it safe like other developers and studios.

Of course Leon is still the main star; Leon Kennedy is currently one of the main reasons for the huge hype around the game.
His action sections strongly resemble the Resident Evil 4 style of gameplay, and even Capcom itself stated that it wants to keep using Leon even when he is 70 years old!
Fans are clearly still not ready to say goodbye to Leon.

The game has already received a photo mode and multiple post-launch updates, and a story DLC is also in preparation!
Capcom is clearly planning long-term support for Resident Evil Requiem throughout the entire 2026.
Resident Evil Requiem definitely feels like one of the biggest Capcom games in recent years.

Resident Evil Requiem has received a new Leon-focused mode called Leon Must Die Forever. And fans are not satisfied with it because they wanted the Mercenaries mode, but instead they got this hardcore survival challenge. That’s why part of the fanbase is disappointed due to the absence of classic Mercenaries content, while another part of the fanbase likes the new Leon Must Die Forever mode.

Capcom clearly wants to experiment with the Resident Evil formula instead of just recycling old modes.
