"Mortal Shell 2 has finally revealed its first real gameplay, lasting over 10+ minutes. The game looks bigger, more brutal, and more complex than the first installment, AND YOU CAN PLAY AS SHEEP?!?!"

Mortal Shell 2 has finally revealed its first real gameplay, lasting over 10+ minutes. The game looks bigger, more brutal, and more complex than the first installment, and the player can transform into… A SHEEP?! HUH?!?!

Yes, the sheep thing is actually real.

In the trailer, you can see the character transform into a sheep, stand on its hind legs, and attack enemies. And this is in a dark fantasy game… A COMPLETE CONTRAST!

However, it’s still not clear whether that is a special Shell, some kind of ability, or simply a troll moment.

Aside from the sheep, the game is actually a serious upgrade.

The combat is faster and more aggressive, featuring both melee and ranged attacks, with more builds and upgrades.

The world is no longer small like in the first game; it now includes open-world elements, with 60+ dungeons added, as well as many hidden things.

You still use Shells, each with a different playstyle and abilities. It’s basically like switching characters during the game.

Unlike the first installment, this sequel is much more ambitious. The first game was an “Indie Dark Souls clone.”

Now this looks like a AAA-ish soulslike contender.

However, the sheep isn’t just something random. It shows that the game doesn’t want to be just another “edgy Dark Souls copy,” but that it will have its own identity.

As we know, the soulslike scene is now overcrowded. Mortal Shell 2 could be a refreshment in the genre by introducing transformations, ranged combat, and open-world elements.

If they nail the balance, this game could be a sleeper hit of 2026.

However, if they overdo the random ideas… it could turn cringe.

Mortal Shell is an action role-playing video game developed by Cold Symmetry and published by Playstack. The game was released on 18 August 2020, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.
